What will the apprentice be doing?
Our Digital & Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeships are aimed at people who have a passion for learning and innovation. Ambitious, innovative and determined people who respect our heritage and can think beyond the challenges of today to build the cars of tomorrow
Increasingly automated. Ever more sophisticated. This is the future our vision holds for our vehicles. As a Digital & Technology Solutions Degree Apprentice, you will implement technology solutions, aligned to your pathway, to develop new products and services and increase productivity using digital technologies. Jaguar Land Rover is a world leader in engineering - we make incredible luxury vehicles. Our aspirations are no different for Digital & Technology. Our people, our teams and our culture are at the heart of everything we do. We are natives of the Agile and "DevOps" world and are here to solve complex technical challenges.
Software Engineering pathway
Software is a key component of our future cars as the technology in vehicles continues to increase to meet customers' evolving needs. Before the customer enters the car, technology identifies the key fob and their phone to recognise them and allow access; during their journey, software aids their driving with stability and assistance systems and provides a welcoming and refined user experience through in-vehicle infotainment. In short, software gives us our edge. It makes our thinking come alive in the real world. This pathway will show you how to design, build and test ground-breaking software that really delivers. You'll also learn how to integrate engineering principles that deliver superior analysis, development and built-in security.
Along the way, you could work in any of the following Product Engineering functional areas: Engineering Body Chassis (EBC), Digital Products Platform (DPP), Engineering Powertrain (EP), Engineering Operations (EO) or Engineering Research (ER). You could also be based within our Digital team. You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process. Please see website for more information.
Depending on the area tasks can include:
• Learn the tools, engineering methodologies and techniques to create and optimise cutting-edge engineering solutions
• Gain expertise in cutting-edge technologies such as virtual reality-based user testing via multi-axial simulators (MAS)
• Learn all about human-machine interfaces
• Discover how to prototype models rapidly
• Build knowledge of modelling and simulation software
• Low-level software development for high voltage chargers
• DevOps pipeline development
• Battery management software algorithm development
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As part of your apprenticeship, you will study for a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions with the University of Warwick (WMG).
Over the first three years of your apprenticeship, you will study a range of modules designed to help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to thrive as a technology professional. You'll contribute to the business in your assigned role, as well as undertake additional study in your own time, to achieve your academic award. A network of apprentice tutors and line managers will regularly review your progress and offer advice along the way, to support you in performing at your best.
Modules are taught in week-long blocks throughout the academic year by WMG, part of the University of Warwick. These will be a mix of lectures, practical laboratory assignments, seminars and tutorials delivered in person and online and you will also enjoy access to a virtual learning environment for further support.
In the final year, you will undertake a work-based project which also forms part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). On successful completion of your EPA, you will achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship - and will be ready for an amazing career with Jaguar Land Rover.
