What will the apprentice be doing?
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
During this apprenticeship you will study a Civil Engineer Apprentice Framework (Degree Level 6) at Northumbria University in Newcastle one day a week. Your apprenticeship will last 66 months (plus a 6-month end point assessment). You will be primarily based in Gosforth, but you will have to travel around Tyne and Wear.
University will be block release or day release - this will be agreed with the employer and the University, to suit the needs of both the apprentice and organisation.

- Carrying out structural and superficial inspections of Metro structures in accordance with current standards and best practice.
- Identifying structural repairs and other maintenance works to assist in preparation of the structural maintenance strategy.
- Managing external maintenance and repair contractors to ensure contractual commitments and legislative requirements are met where the works fall outside the remit of the Renewals Directorate.
- To carry out MICTA and Switching duties if trained in the correct procedures.
- Monitoring implementation of the inspection and maintenance programme and structural maintenance strategy.
- Updating asset and maintenance records.
- Updating drawings and specifications and providing new specifications for repairs and maintenance.
- Investigating, recording and monitoring any faults or incidents to prevent further occurrence and improve service delivery.
