Join us for an exciting opportunity at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust and train to become a qualified Ultrasound Practitioner and gain a BSc (Hons) degree in Medical Ultrasound whilst you work.

The Ultrasound Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship programme combines clinical employment, work based learning, and academic learning. Remuneration will be band 4 for the duration of the apprenticeship course. It is a fully funded route towards qualification as an Ultrasound Practitioner in Radiology. As an employee of the NCA, you will be expected to demonstrate our values. Once you have successfully completed the degree apprenticeship course, you will move to a substantive band 5 post within the Trust. On completion, there will be the opportunity to undertake a preceptorship/post graduate module.

Main duties of the job

You will be employed as an Apprentice Ultrasound Practitioner at the NCA and will work within any of the 4 sites (Rochdale Infirmary, Royal Oldham, Fairfield General (Bury) or Salford Royal) and be provided with dedicated time (one day per week) to study for your degree. The apprenticeships will be aligned to Sheffield Hallam University where you will attend the programme through a mix of 1 or 2-week block release and on-line lectures throughout the year University of Cumbria in addition to self-directed learning. During the apprenticeship you will develop skills and knowledge that will allow you to work in today's dynamic and changing healthcare environment. There is a requirement to travel to the university campus for academic study and classes and to be able to travel between sites both within the NCA.

You will join the March 2023 cohort at Sheffield Hallam University, and this will be a three year fixed term post.

Entry requirements:
  • Level 2 in English and Maths (GCSE C or grade 4)
  • Evidence of working in a Health Care setting essentia

PLUS, one of the following:
  • UCAS points or above (A-levels/BTEC or equivalent)
  • Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE courses
  • Level 3 apprenticeship
  • Higher Technical qualifications (HTQ's) level 4 or 5 qualifications such as HND's, Foundation degrees, Certificate HE or Diploma HE
  • Previous Degree
  • On successful completion of this course, you will move into a band 5 substantive post.
