Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent Maths and English + 3 other GCSE's (Grade A*- C or 4-9) Essential
A Level or equivalent All subjects considered (Grade 112 UCAS points or equivalent) Essential
- You will work alongside the operating department team to deliver safe, high-quality care to surgical patients in the perioperative, day surgery, theatre and post-anaesthesia care unit
- You will ensure patient comfort, dignity and confidentiality are maintained
- You will work as part of a team with other professionals and will ensure that there is effective communication between all parties
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- You will complete a BSc (Hons) ODP programme approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the College of Operating Department Practitioners (CODP)
- This is a three-year course with the University of Derby, the academic study takes place online and there is an annual 'residential' week at the university of Derby
- Modules are taught over three trimesters a year through online collaborate sessions, webinars and unit activities
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- After completing this apprenticeship you would be a registered Operating Department Practitioner and able to apply for this role in a healthcare setting
- You would be able to progress and develop towards roles such as team leader, theatre manager, practice educator, advanced critical care practitioner
