What might a day in this job look like?

 

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to enter the exciting world of IT support, primarily supporting inhouse developed applications and also some third-party applications. The role would suit someone who’s keen to learn all elements of an IT support role and can focus on delivering a great service to our internal customers. Your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Triaging calls that are passed from the Service Desk. Troubleshooting issues, identifying solutions and resolving calls. Applying data fixes to resolve issues. Implementing bug fixes to application code. Involvement in procedures, such as software releases and daily checks. Monitoring and reacting to system alerts. Contributing to ideas to prevent recurring issues.

 

What will I learn?

 

On this apprenticeship programme you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to fix a wide range of IT problems and to succeed as a Service Desk Analyst at Baillie Gifford. We’ll also provide a combination of classroom based and on the job training to help you achieve SVQ Information Technology and Telecommunications at SCQF Level 6.

What qualification or qualities are required?

 

 

  • A passion for technology is essential. Knowledge of Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel. Good problem-solving skills. The ability to work well in a team and on your own initiative. The curiosity to learn and a willingness to ask questions.
  • The communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical people.
  • A good listener who engages in what is being explained. The ability to negotiate with customers and team colleagues to meet business deadlines.
  • A determination to provide and maintain a high standard of customer service to Baillie Gifford staff.
  • Ability to follow simple program logic.
  • Any experience working with databases is beneficial but not essential.
  • A National 5 in Maths and English, or equivalent, as a minimum.
