With opportunities across our super site in Crawley, you'll be working within one of our five core businesses: • SIX - Secure Information Systems • AVS - Avionics • DMS - Defence Mission Systems • LAS - Land and Air Systems • GTS - Ground Transportation Systems

We have vacancies for this Degree Apprenticeship in several of our departments. These include

  • Hardware Apprentice - Avionics
  • Systems Apprentice - Avionics
  • Engineering Apprentice - Secure Information Systems
  • Environmental Apprentice
  • Life through Support Modelling Apprentice
  • Supportability Engineer
  • Component Engineer
  • Availability/Range Manager
  • Product Support Engineer

Each of these job roles are different but require the same core skills. The most appropriate job role for you will be discussed during the interview stage.

Typically the jobs may include

Design functional electronic systems and circuits from component level

Utilise modern CAD technology to implement circuit design with understanding of considerations for heat dissipation, electrical interference and other industry specific considerations affecting layout

Write and document structured code to comply with industry norms and to allow others to understand and subsequently maintain/modify the code

Utilise modelling techniques for circuit design, embedded software development and thermal management

Apply principles and practice of design for market, design for manufacturability, design for testability and design for maintainability

Develop a test plan for a product you have developed

Explain the process by which a product is introduced into production, including what aspects are discussed at what stage and with whom and how development gateways work

Develop basic project plans including resource planning, time planning, use of contingencies etc. Also techniques for predicting pinch points and strategies for timescale recovery

Be aware of international standards and compliance requirements for the products designed by the employer. Be able to discuss the differences between legislative and non-legislative requirements

Be able to demonstrate awareness and understanding of basic health and safety principles both in the general workplace and specific to electronic circuit design

Qualifications required

120+ UCAS points including A Levels in Maths and a relevant discipline, or

Completion of a Level-3 apprenticeship/professional qualification in a relevant discipline

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 4 year programme
