What will the apprentice be doing?

The main responsibility of this role is to ensure timely and accurate delivery of the payroll. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within our HR Team to help deliver an efficient and effective service to all employees, following best practice methods and processes whilst gaining an apprenticeship in Payroll.

You will learn about the end to end payroll process which includes administrative input, production of required reporting and processing of the monthly payroll. This will involve the calculation of company and statutory payments made within legal guidelines such as SSP, SMP and SPP as an example.

You will be producing and administering key payroll documentarian, e.g. payslips and P11D's whilst also learning about End of Year procedures and tasks. Alongside this you will be looking at current processes and procedures to ensure that we remain an effective payroll function whilst also monitoring internal and external risk.

You will also get the opportunity to work collaboratively with other departments within the society such as Finance, Operational Risk and Internal / External Audit functions.

You are expected to have good administrative skills, laser sharp accuracy and be able to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative. You will be well versed in Microsoft Excel or similar reporting tools with a high degree of general IT and numeracy skills. The ability to demonstrate organisational and communication skills are essential as you will be expected to work and liaise with all employees within the organisation.

Time management and planning are essential skills. As a highly motivated individual, you will have the desire to achieve goals and the ability to work in a pressurised environment whilst still producing work of the highest standard.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will achieve your Payroll Level 5 Qualification.

A 100% tailored training and assessment program will be delivered to support you throughout your Apprenticeship, (21 months including endpoint assessment) topics covered include -

Business and Customer Awareness.
Payroll Core.
Pensions.
Technical Payroll.
Regulations and Compliance.
Systems and Processes.
Planning and Prioritization.
Analysis skills.
Using Systems and Processes.
Producing Quality and Accurate Information and Reports.

You may need to complete level 2 maths and English Functional skills (if you cannot evidence prior grades).
