What will the apprentice be doing?

Your role will include training in; Design Office Administration, 2D & 3d Design using AutoCAD and Solid works Metal Fabrication & Manufacturing techniques, Mechanical Handling Machine Design including Conveyors, Screens, Feeders, Centrifuges as well as ergonomic process plant design. You will learn to produce engineering drawings and schedules to transfer the design information clearly and concisely to our manufacturing facility and to our site construction teams.

Role & responsibilities:
  • Be trained in the use of 2D and 3D design Software in order to produce (under supervision) basic designs that form part of a bulk materials handling plant or piece of equipment
  • Maintain design office schedules and registers
  • Learn to produce engineering calculations using spreadsheets and other software
  • Use the Microsoft Office suit of programmes to transfer design office output and communicate with the rest of our business
  • Attend meetings to get exposure to how businesses manage design and projects

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Typically the duration of this apprenticeship is 5 to 6 years. This duration may be reduced for a candidate with previous relevant experience and/or someone already part qualified. Alternatively this may also be a progression route from a relevant Advanced Apprenticeship.

You will study on a Product Design and Development Engineering (Degree) Level 6 on a Foundation Degree in Manufacturing pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Degree Level 6 standard.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
