What will the apprentice be doing?
  • Typically the type of work that an Engineering Apprentice will be involved in will include a mix of mechanical analysis and design, 3D model and 2D drawing development, site surveying activities, design based documentation and technical reports for customers or specific projects, and support to manufacture and installation
  • Design - assisting in the development of technical solutions by producing design models, calculations, reports and drawings, surveying of sites, using appropriate analysis and relevant standards
  • Modelling and Drawing - assisting in the development of 3D models in Autodesk Inventor and 2D drawings in Autodesk AutoCAD, including dimensioning, tolerancing, fabrication details, etc.
  • Construction and Installation Support - supporting hazard elimination and risk reduction activities, responding to technical queries and non-conformances, operating quality systems and Health, Safety and Risk Management procedures and checking specified technical aspects of site activities
  • The aim of the apprenticeship is to develop an individual as a competent Mechanical Engineer, with the added benefit of obtaining hands on experience in nuclear new build, decommissioning and defence projects

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
  • Apprentices also attend university to complete a nationally recognised Level 6 Mechanical Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • We would also support the individual in achieving Professional Recognition through the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (I Mech E)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
  • Upon completion apprentices will be equipped to apply for internal vacancies
