Job summary

The initial Apprenticeship will be Customer Service Practitioner Level 2. On successful completion of this the post holder will complete an Industry Recognised Controller course. The post holder will use their knowledge of pest biology and behaviour to survey sites, identify levels of pest infestations, determine appropriate actions to eradicate pests and prevent re-infestation, ensuring at all times that current legislation is adhered to.

Work typically includes routine proactive visits and one off reactive visits to solve immediate pest issues. They may work within a team or alone. They must operate in a safe manner, particularly when handling traps and chemicals and they should communicate with all types of customer to ensure that they are fully briefed about treatment programmes and any associated risks relating to treatment. The post holder will continue to keep their pest control knowledge up to date and maintain professional standards and accurate records at all times.

Hours of work are 37.5 hours a week

Main duties of the job

Provide a pest control service to all wards/departments

Identify the correct chemicals to be used in order to control insects, vermin and other associated pests paying particular attention to the handling and use of chemicals, especially in clinical areas.

Identify the type of traps to be used to secure the capture of pests and safeguard other wildlife

The recording of all jobs attended and treatments applied must be completed and kept up to date.

The analysing of insect specimens in order to identify the type of insect and specific treatment required

Liaison with external specialists i.e., Rentokil, Pigeon Control Advisory Services etc.

Ordering and storage of all pest control stock, ensuring a Health and Safety Data sheet is obtained for all pesticides and rodenticides

General site tidiness

Conducting minor works to prevent re-infestation of Insects, vermin and other pests.

Undertake any other duties, which may be reasonably required which is appropriate to the grade

Demonstrate professional pride in the job through appropriate dress and positive and confident language

Be able to organise yourself, prioritise your own workload and work to meet deadlines

Demonstrate the company and industry values at all times

Operate fairly, respectfully and with integrity

Ensure equality by treating all customers as equals

Achieve good product and service knowledge

Be conscious of peoples views and sensitivities regarding animals and pest control.
