What will the apprentice be doing?
Working alongside experienced chemists,you will gain hands on experience of working in a laboratory.
You will learn to carry out chemical analysis and experimental chemistry using a variety of techniques and equipment.
You will learn to analyse the interpret data, carry out problem solving, and report on your findings.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Over the 4 years of the apprenticeship, you will study for the Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Science) Degree Apprenticeship while working, gaining hands-on experience.
You will be based at the High Force Research manufacturing base in Bowburn, Co Durham, studying remotely with Manchester Metropolitan University, attending annual study weeks in Manchester.
You will be given study time up to one day a week.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
During the apprenticeshp you will be permanently employed by HFR and will gain experience working within the QC laboratory. By the end of the training, you will be able to work independently as a Quality Control Scientist.

A Level or equivalent to include Chemistry as one of the subjects (Grade BCC) Essential
BTEC or equivalent Science (Grade DDM) Essential
