"This role will be as part of a multi-discipline engineering team within Waste Projects at Hinkley. The ultimate scope of work includes retrieval of various radioactive intermediate level wastes from storage vessels/tanks and conditioning the waste for final disposal."
Site Information
Hinkley Point A Site is located on the Somerset coast about eight miles from Bridgwater.
It is neighboured by a generating station and a new build site, both owned by EDF.
The site began construction in 1957 and generation began in 1965. It has two Magnox reactors which are being decommissioned following their final shut-down in 2000. It was the first station in the Magnox fleet to generate more than 103TW hours of electricity.
The site is currently being prepared for entry into care and maintenance.

EC&I - Nuclear Scientist & Nuclear Engineer (integrated degree) Apprenticeship Standard Reference: ST0289 - Level 6
Qualification
On completion of the apprenticeship, the nuclear scientist and nuclear engineer will hold a Bachelors (Honours) degree qualification (at level 6), accredited by the constituent bodies of the Engineering or Science Council. The degree will have a minimum of 60 relevant nuclear based credits (1/6 of total credits).

Things to consider
There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. Due to the remote location of the sites, public transport availability is limited.

- Assist the Engineering Section Lead to ensure that site plant is maintained and is suitably safe, efficient and reliable.
- Provide technical support for maintenance activities where required
- Provide technical support to current and future project design and implementation
- Provide technical input to ensure that plant performance and details of component defects are considered as part of the overall system or asset management and future investment.
