What will the apprentice be doing?

As a Civil Engineering apprentice in our Local Government, Highways team in Exeter. You will be supporting your team on local and national projects; carrying out site inspections, preparing engineering design documents including drawings using AutoCAD and helping your team to compile reports for our clients. You will be trained in the use of software engineering tools, and you will be supported by your Line Manager and Mentor.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will attend Exeter College to study a Civil Engineering apprenticeship and gain a Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment, equivalent to higher national certificate (HNC). As well as completing your End Point Assessment (and your Engineering Technician status) with the Institution of Civil Engineers. You will also be enroled onto a bespoke internal development programme to help you to attain the knowledge, skills and behaviours to successfully achieve your apprenticeship, and support your career in Civil Engineering.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

As this is a permanent position, after gaining your qualification, WSP will continue to be committed to your learning and development throughout your career with us. You will have the opportunity to pursue your further study and training goals and go onto work towards gaining professional registration with your chosen institution.
