What will the apprentice be doing?

The company are continuing to develop their apprenticeship programme and are looking to recruit Technical Apprentices for our Manufacturing facilities at Ipswich. The role will include the following:
  • Master various manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Meeting expectations of immediate customers to meet company's quality and productivity targets.
  • Communicate well and effectively with shop floor associates and upper management alike.
  • Review and understand the basic processes required to assemble the current products and create standard work documentation.
  • Understand and suggest improvement ideas on current processes to help Jacobsen meet its quality and productivity targets.
  • Provide innovative solutions to process issues identified by the operators and supervisors.
  • Assist in applying knowledge to analyse, investigate and resolve non-routine problems.
  • Provide facilities, tools and gauges in line with project timing plans to ensure phase gate readiness.
  • Continually assess new technologies for integration into operations to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Provide hands on support to the Production Team during phase gate sign off to ensure processes meet output targets.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

You are invited to join us for an open afternoon at our Ipswich Manufacturing Facility on Thursday 30th March from 4pm - 6pm to discuss our Apprenticeship Programme.

We'll take you for a tour around our impressive plant so you can see first-hand where you would be working, show you some of the machines we make, meet members of the Manufacturing, Engineering & Customer Care Teams and answer any questions you may have about the Application Process, the Apprenticeships and the Company.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
  • The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 4 Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Qualifications include: Level 4 HNC in Engineering or Manufacturing.
  • College attendance will be at the Colchester Institute - Colchester Campus one day per week during term time.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
  • Successful completion of the course could lead to a permanent role working within the Manufacturing Engineering department.

GCSE or equivalent 5 GCSEs including English, maths, and science (Grade 9-4/A*-C) Essential
A Level or equivalent Maths, science and/or Level 3 Engineering (Grade C or above/Pass) Essential

Things to consider

You will be required to attend Colchester Institute 1 day per week for the duration of the apprenticeship. A monthly allowance is paid alongside salary for training/travel. There is no working away. Full laundered work wear service with tee shirts and sweatshirts provided free of charge. All PPE provided including safety footwear.
