As an apprentice, your 4-year development programme will be made up of up to 8 placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every apprentice’s journey is unique. Here’s an idea of what yours could look like:
Year 1
Placement 1 - Strategy and Planning – 6 months – Developing the TfL and Professional Service Scorecards, and reviewing how TfL prioritises its capital investment
Placement 2 – Customer Service Supervisor - 6 months – Delivering a world class service at one of our stations whilst being accountable for a safe and reliable station.
Year 2
Placement 3 – Commercial Development Sustainability – 6 months – Supporting the Sustainable Development Team, to assess the environmental sustainability across TfL’s property estate.
Placement 4- Project Management – 6 months – work with engineering colleagues to make select TfL stations step free, report to the Mayor and TfL directors on a regular basis about project progress.
You will have the flexibility to tailor your third and fourth year placements to match the areas of the business you are interested in. Your final placement will take place alongside a compulsory research project that will explore a business improvement which could support your dissertation.
Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could become as a Customer Service Manager or an Assistant Business Strategy Planner, which could lead to further career development opportunities such as Trains Operation Manager or Business Strategy Manager.
On completion of the scheme, you will obtain a Level 6 Chartership as a Charted Manager and a Degree in Business Management.
What training and support will you get?
You will be working towards a Level 6 (degree) qualification in Business Management (BA Hons)
You will be required to attend University 1 day per week.
Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your Line Manager. You’ll also be connected to a ‘buddy’ who will be a more experienced apprentice from the scheme.
