Job summary

Medical Records Clerk Apprentice - studying toward Business Administration Level 3

Salary: £5.28 per hour from April 2023

Hours: 37.5 (to include study time for apprenticeship). Fixed term for 19 months.

As a Medical Records Clerk Apprentice, you will be helping to prepare patient files for outpatient clinics and day case procedures, preparing documents for scanning, scanning of documents, collection and delivery of patient files throughout the hospital site, dealing with telephone enquiries and working to strict timelines.

You will work as part of a team within Patient Access and once fully trained will provide expertise in the proactive management of the patient medical records.

You will be understanding a Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship, which will be delivered by MK College. You will take part in interactive workshops and be assigned a tutor to support you throughout the programme.

Main duties of the job

To succeed we are looking for someone who:
  • Is committed to delivering excellent service;
  • Holds the ability to learn to accurately and efficiently input and prepare patient records whilst adhering to policies and procedures;
  • Has experience of handling inbound telephone calls;
  • Has IT skills in relation to Microsoft packages including Word/Excel;
  • Shows evidence of working under pressure to tight deadlines and is able to deal with difficult situations e.g. late add ons to clinics, preparing paper documentation should there be a system failure, etc.
  • Has a good general education, ideally with Maths & English at GCSE (Grade C or above) or equivalent.
