What will the apprentice be doing?

The initial role of the successful apprentice will be to support and assist our Environment and Ground Engineering team in Croydon on a wide variety of projects both in the office and on site alongside the completion of their formal education.

The Environmental Degree Apprenticeship comprises at least 20% formal learning with the remainder comprising on-the-job training. The successful applicant would be based at AECOM's Croydon office (with the potential to visit other offices, including London and sites as and when required) as part of AECOM's UK&I Environment and Ground Engineering business.

After a period of time working within their home team, the apprentice would then gain experience working with other environmental teams based in the Croydon office to allow them to see the wide range of work AECOM does and help them acquire the breadth of on-the-job experience required by the Environmental Practitioner Degree Standard. Responsibilities will also include but are not limited to:

· Supporting project directors, managers and wider project teams in the delivery of projects, including environmental impact assessments;

· Assisting in the delivery of project outputs including - environmental reports and related technical studies;

· Completing a varied range of site roles include logging, data collection, monitoring, sampling and supervising contractors, within different environment departments which may include but not limited to ecology, noise, air quality and Geographic Information Systems;

· Attendance at and participation in project team meetings, client meetings and internal meetings, including training sessions

· Prioritising tasks and meeting commitments on an on-going basis, and taking ownership and responsibility for the completion and quality of work.

· Undertaking calculations and analysing the data of completed surveys;

· Technical report writing and reviewing technical documents;

· Ensuring health and safety issues are embedded in project delivery from the outset; and

· Becoming an integral and valued member of the Environment team.

In addition, we are looking for someone who is:

  • Good interpersonal skills and a collaborative team approach;
    Proficient in English and with excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Willing and able to visit other locations on company business (if necessary).

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This position is ideally suited to either school leavers or individuals looking to make a career change. Prior experience of working in environmental consultancy is not necessary, however, to be accepted onto the Brighton or Kingston University Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship programme you will need to meet the following minimum entry requirements:

English Language requirements: International and EU applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent).

A Levels: Minimum CCC (96 UCAS points) No specific subjects required. (Brighton) or
BTEC Extended Diploma: No specific subjects required. (Brighton)
Access to HE Diploma: Pass with 60 credits overall. Level 3 unit in science required. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 18 credits at merit or above. (Brighton) or International Baccalaureate: 26 points with at least three subjects at Higher level. No specific subjects required.
Or and Advanced Apprenticeship in a science related sector

For Kingston Study

A Levels: Minimum 96-120 UCAS points) from at least two A-Levels. A Level or equivalent 2 A-Levels e.g. Geography, Sciences, Geology or Maths (Grades A*-C) Essential. (Kingston)
BTEC or equivalent Science or Engineering related (Grade DMM) Essential (Kingston
Access to HE Diploma: Pass Access to HE Diploma in relevant subjects e.g engineering, science, business and maths. (Kingston)
GCES: 5 GCSES or equivalent including English Language and Maths (Grade 9-4 or A*-C) Essential (Kingston)

Candidates with appropriate qualifications can enter the qualification at level5/year 3:

· Foundation degree

· Higher National Diploma

· Higher national Certificate.

Applicants with non-standard qualifications or Significant prior work experience in a relevant sector, will be considered on an individual basis.

All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
