What will the apprentice be doing?
  • Final product and in process sample sterility testing
  • Reading and processing data, including generating material for trend analysis from site environmental monitoring.
  • Performing microbial identifications & assisting in contamination investigations
  • Other microbiological based testing including water testing, fertility and bioburden
  • Participation and use of Quality Management Systems.
  • Participation in department continuous improvement activities
  • Sample reception & reconciliation
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Quality Control area in accordance with GMP, EHS & Bio-safety regulations
  • Plan and run a project by analysing data from lab-based investigations

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
  • As part of your training, you complete a three-year Level 5 Technician Scientist Apprenticeship course, leading to a BTEC Level 5 HND in Applied Science (Chemistry or Biology pathway)
  • Most of the learning will take place online one day per week, with some practical elements taking place in Sutton Coldfield throughout the duration of the 3-year apprenticeship

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you could be offered a permanent position with Boehringer Ingelheim
