The Role & Responsibilities

The Legal programme is ideal for young adults eager to build a career within the legal profession and will provide on the job experience through assisting members of Shawbrook’s in house Legal Team on a variety of issues faced by a regulated financial services provider whilst studying towards a level 3 Paralegal apprenticeship standard. The programme is 24 months in length and will cover a broad range of content ranging from ethics, professionalism, the legal system and how to practice law within financial services. Roles will be based in London.

The Trainee Paralegal will be responsible for assisting the Legal Team with legal research, drafting documents, administration and filing. Your role will be to assist all members of the Legal Team on a variety of issues faced by a regulated financial services provider. This will include completing research and reports on technical legal matters relating to lending of money (secured and unsecured), along with reviewing documents and considering advice. You will be working with members of the Legal Team who deal with lending money on a secured and unsecured basis and property litigation along with ad-hoc legal matters as they arise.

As a Trainee Paralegal, you'll need to:

  • Draft documents such as reports and research notes along with proofreading documents
  • Conduct legal research on law and regulation
  • Analyse and input legal data
  • Write articles for internal or external circulation
  • Assist with negotiating contracts and legal documents
  • Attend meetings with the Legal Team and wider Bank
  • Carry out office administration, organise diaries, schedule meetings
  • Have an eye for detail and be thorough in your work and demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills
  • Be able to develop working relationships with a variety of people across the Bank with varying legal knowledge
  • Work to tight deadlines and be comfortable prioritising work and working under pressure
  • Be able to keep information confidential

The Person

  • You will have to have the right to work in the UK and to have lived in the UK continuously for the past 3 years.
  • GCSE grade 4/5, C or above in Maths and English is required to join any of our apprenticeship programmes.
  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent, including English and Mathematics.
  • You’ll will either be in Year 13 or equivalent working towards completing your studies in summer 2023 or looking for your next career move with the opportunity to study towards achieving a (level 3) apprenticeship starting in September 2023.
  • A motivation and desire to pursue a career in the respective apprenticeship qualification route.
  • Ideally working knowledge of MS Office applications.
