Project Engineer Apprentice

What will the apprentice be doing?

Following the first year AMRC training block, apprentices embark on a series of five rotations through the different business units within Tribosonics: Research and Innovation, Engineering Applications, Product, Servitisation and Commercial. Within each rotation there is significant flexibility to expose apprentices to all facets of the business whilst tailoring the experience for each apprentice.

Each rotation is expected to build on the previous ones by gradually building up the responsibilities the apprentice has to meet both business needs and the apprentice's aspirations.

Principle Role & Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will support the project team to deliver the integration of measurement technologies into customer equipment and systems. This will be done through designing and testing customer component through to development, manufacture and machining of prototype components and products. In the development of prototypes, the role will also include management of suppliers and outsourced machining processes. The role will have you working both in the workshop/lab space, conducting testing, machining prototypes and assembling measurement systems and also in the office, reviewing test results, designing components and managing suppliers.

• Support line manager during industrial visits
• Manage suppliers to ensure parts delivered on schedule, to cost and to specification
• Provide regular updates on progress to line manager
• Comply with Health and Safety regulations
• Comply with Quality standards
• Conduct work to a high professional standard
• Assist with other tasks as required

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will study on a Degree Level 6 Manufacture Engineer standard on a Foundation Degree in Mechanical Manufacture Engineering pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Degree Level 6 standard.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Completion of the University of Sheffield's AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.

Things to consider

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. One Friday per month you will return to your workplace. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study.
