What will the apprentice be doing?
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Undertake a degree apprenticeship in environmental health, completing all necessary course and assessed work, including independent study. The qualification will be at Leeds Beckett University on day realease.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
To progress and develop as an Environmental Health Officer with the Council. There may be the opportunity for a permanent contract for a suitable employee.

Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent English (Grade C/4) Essential
GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade C/4) Essential
A Level or equivalent science and/or Maths (Grade C) Essential
- Contribute to the delivery of environmental health services including environmental protection, food safety, health and safety at work, housing standards, licensing, and pest control
- Support officers to carry out enforcement duties including collation and collection of evidence, preparing reports, drafting formal notices, and preparing cases for prosecution in the Magistrates' Court and attending court as a witness
- Assist and support, and undertake independently, proactive inspections, compliance visits, investigations, surveys, sampling and interventions in commercial and domestic premises and the wider environment
- Undertake a case load of reactive work, including responding to and investigating service requests from the public on matters including neighbour nuisance / anti-social-behaviour, and housing disrepair
- Undertake proactive project work and educational activities to promote public health
- Analyse and interpret data and information and implement decisions on a broad range of activities across the service areas
- Communicate with residents and businesses to advise them on the relevant legal provisions and best practice recommendations for environmental health issues, using a variety of methods including face-to-face, via telephone, email and in writing
- Liaise with a range of other services, agencies, and organisations to achieve public protection and public health improvement
- Undertake from time-to-time miscellaneous administrative support duties to the frontline service delivery teams
- Work outside normal office hours for the effective performance of duties and development of knowledge and professional competency
