Employer description:
The Greater Manchester Academies Trust (GMAT) was formed in 2016. It currently supports 2 academies, Manchester Communication Academy (MCA) and Manchester Communication Primary Academy (MCPA) as well as a Teacher Training centre, North Manchester Initial Teacher Training Programme (NMITTP), in North Manchester. In 2019, MCA was awarded National Research School status.

Overview:
The Apprentice IT Technician’s role is to ensure proper computer operation so that end users can accomplish academy tasks. This includes receiving, prioritising, documenting, and actively resolving end user help requests. Problem resolution will involve the use of diagnostic tools and tracking of helpdesk tickets via the academy IT helpdesk system.

This job description sets out the main duties and responsibilities of the post and each individual task may not be identified. The post holder will be expected to undertake such other duties as reasonably correspond with the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
The job description may, in consultation with the post holder, be changed to reflect changes to the post. 

Key tasks / Duties: 

  • The apprentice will need to be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people 
  • Resolve assigned IT Helpdesk calls
  • Assist with all channels of communication into the helpdesk, phone, email, web portal)
  • Ensure that accurate, up-to-date information is maintained on all support tickets and the customer is informed on progress at regular intervals
  • Attend relevant meetings as required
  • Build a good rapport with all helpdesk customers
  • Perform hands-on fixes at desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware and configuring systems and applications
  • Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting
  • Escalate problems when required
  • To undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the line manager and commensurate with the post

You will also need to be aware of / be able to:
Provide cover for the helpdesk between the hours of 7:30am to 5pm.

Entry requirements: 

  • 3 GCSE's (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject 
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above) 
  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship is in a similar subject 

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications. 

Working week:

37.5hrs per week / Term-time, plus 2 weeks.

Future prospects:
At the end of the apprenticeship, depending on budget, the post potentially could be made permanent.
