Qualifications required:

Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4 or above, including English and mathematics

Training to be delivered:

Level 3 Safety, Health & Environment Technician

Delivery Model: Online – virtual classroom delivery via MS Teams

JOB DESCRIPTION

Cogent Skills is working with Accord Healthcare Ltd to recruit an Apprentice Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisor for its busy manufacturing site in Barnstaple, north Devon. The successful candidate will be employed by Cogent Skills Services but will undertake all on-job learning with Accord Healthcare.

As part of a small experienced EHS team, the Apprentice EHS Advisor will assist the management team in ensuring that all statutory and company health, safety and environment standards are fully met at all times and supporting the continual development of the site EHS management system.

Over the course of the programme, the Apprentice EHS Advisor will learn how to:

  • assist the EHS team to ensure that policies, procedures and working practices are safe and compliant with legal, corporate and ISO certification requirements
  • Implement processes and tools which provide access to essential EHS information employees on site
  • work with Safety Representatives, Representative of Employee Safety and Risk Assessors, conduct task specific risk assessments and determine necessary risk control measures
  • assist Departmental Managers with the completion and maintenance of EHS risk assessments to ensure compliance with all relevant UK legislation
  • carry out regular site inspections and area audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
  • support different business areas / divisions with regards to EHS matters, attending and supporting business unit team meetings
  • support delivery of EHS training and briefing sessions which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness
  • capture and interpret EHS data to provide meaningful information to management in a timely manner

Full knowledge training will be provided, covering:

  • the moral, financial and legal reasons for good health and safety
  • safety, health and environment legislation and sources of guidance
  • understanding appropriate methods of identifying, evaluating and controlling risks
  • prioritising hazards and implementing safe systems of work
  • health and safety management systems
  • environmental systems and impact analysis
  • sources and uses of energy and efficiency
  • control of pollution
