What will the apprentice be doing?

Working within the ICT support team you will assist in providing a first-class ICT support service to over 700 users, including teachers, support staff and students. The role is varied and an ideal opportunity for an individual who is keen to experience working with an extended group of external suppliers to ensure our users have access to cloud-first solutions. This role enjoys mentoring and daily support from both the ICT Support and Network Manager and the Director of Digital Strategy.

Key responsibilities:
  • Assist with technical support for users with regards to all devices in the College network (including desktop PCs, laptops, casting devices, printers, phones, CCTV cameras, door locks, etc.). This will involve a high standard of customer facing incident and problem resolution
  • Arrange and install network hardware and software as directed by the ICT Support and Network Manager and Director of Digital Strategy
  • Screen network performance and report findings to ICT Support and Network Manager
  • Design and implement network security measures
  • Give network status reports to the ICT Support and Network Manager and/or Director of Digital Strategy
  • Design new arrangements to enhance the strength of the present network condition
  • Investigate network issues and blackouts, redesign and work together with external consultants on measures to enhance the College network
  • Create and implement measures, traits, and access checks to secure network frameworks
  • Support and oversee firewall situations in accordance with established IT security procedures
  • Upgrade information network to the most recent stable firmware release
  • Configure and manage hardware, facilitated IP voice administrations, and firewalls
  • Undertake administration duties and attend meetings to report progress

During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with The Apprentice and Training Partnership, delivered through combined weekly remote classroom-based training, workplace assessment/training and online learning working towards completing the L4 Network Engineer standard.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with The Apprentice and Training Partnership, delivered through combined classroom-based training, workplace assessment / training and online learning, at the end of which you will have the ability to work as a Network Engineer. There may be potential to progress with the company.
