What will the apprentice be doing?
As a Civil Engineering degree apprentice in our Local Government, Highways team in Shrewsbury, you will be involved in supporting the team to deliver engineering solution instructed by Shropshire Council. These engineering solutions will typically involve highway design and maintenance, traffic engineering, drainage, structures and street lighting. You will train in the use of engineering systems like Autocad and, where relevant, have the opportunity to visit the site to see the design come to life.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will attend Wolverhampton University to study a Civil Engineering degree apprenticeship and gain a BEng, as well as your Incorporated Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers. You will also be enrolled onto a bespoke internal development programme to support you to attain the knowledge, skills and behaviour that will help you successfully achieve your apprenticeship.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
As this is a permanent position, after gaining your degree, WSP will continue to be committed to your learning and development throughout your career with us. You will have the opportunity to work towards gaining Chartered status with your chosen institution, as well as the opportunity to pursue your further study and training goals.
