Things to consider
This opportunity will involve some travelling and occasional overnight stays. Most of the work will be office based with some work based on site. The site work can involve walking in the countryside and near waterways. Some of the work may involve dealing with members of the public.
- Investigate flood mechanisms and quantify flood risk using hydrological and hydraulic theories, calculations and computer models.
- Assess options and design flood alleviation and sustainable drainage solutions.
- Visit sites across the UK to assess flood risk, the condition of flood management assets, conduct appropriate surveys and tests.
- Write reports with appropriate conclusions and recommendations using plain English.
- Produce guidance and procedures to support flood risk management projects.
- Support clients, from initial enquiry through to project delivery and post-project support.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- At the end of the Apprenticeship you will achieve a Civil Engineering Level 6 Degree with honours.
- You will attend the University of Coventry one day per week during term time.
- You will also attend a range of relevant courses and receive a breadth of training opportunities with work. These include Flood Asset Inspection training, PFR Surveyor training and training in using CAD, Flood Modelling software and GIS.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Once qualified you will need to gain IEng ICE status.
- You will be an Assistant Engineer or an Engineer depending on experience.
- You will be able to work across the company in Engineering, Design, Drainage, Flood Modelling and Surveying.
