Toolmaker Apprenticeship (4 Years)

What will I be doing?

During your time with us, you will learn a wide array of engineering and manufacturing skills. As part of our die maintenance department, you will be tasked with designing and fabricating large stamping dies to be used within our manufacturing environment. To achieve this you'll learn how to use both traditional machinery (mills, drills, lathes, and grinders) along with state-of-the-art CNC machines. 

You will become proficient in welding (Mig, Tig, Arc) whilst learning the hardness and heat tolerance of a wide range of metals and alloys. All of these skills will help you when carrying out maintenance and repairs to worn or damaged dies, jigs, and fixtures.

No two days are ever the same at G-TEM - you may be working on fabricating a new die but suddenly there are urgent repairs required for a die. Each day is exciting and varied and will keep you on your toes.

How will I be trained?

During your first year, you will be based entirely at Gloucester Engineering Training (GET) so that you can master the basics. Years 2, 3, and 4 will have you working full-time at our facilities in Gloucester with day release to GET for further training and development.

If you are successful in the first 2 years of your apprenticeship, there is the potential to work towards a HNC qualification to further increase your skillset and knowledge.

What will I be paid?

You will be paid a competitive rate that increases each year of the apprenticeship to reflect your growing skills and experience. College training fees will also be paid by us.

• Year 1 (full-time college): £6.622 per hour (£12,912 per year)
• Year 2 (college day release): £10.18 per hour (£19,851 per year)
• Year 3 (college day release): £11.214 per hour (£21,867 per year)
• Year 4 (college day release): £12.719 per hour (£24,802 per year)
