GCSE or equivalent English and Maths and three other subjects (Grade C/5 or above) Essential
A Level or equivalent any (Grade 112 UCAS Points (BBC)) Desired
BTEC or equivalent any (Grade 112 UCAS Points (DMM)) Desired

Crop (Rice Biotechnology):
- Supporting all stages of in vitro plant production
- Labelling and recording all processed samples
- Handling large numbers of sterile cultures
Technology Discovery:
- Cloning gene-editing constructs for plant transformation
- Transforming banana tissue and regenerating plants
- Genotyping to look for CRISPR editing (qPCR, Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing)
- Analysis of sequencing data using bioinformatic tools
Molecular Biology:
- Cloning: vector assembly, plasmid purification and making competent cells
- Support other key cloning tasks, e.g., gene editing strategy design and optimisation
- Genotyping: gDNA extraction, PCR, Sanger to characterise gene edited plant material
- Support other key genotyping tasks, e.g., next-generation sequencing and data analysis
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
BSc (Hons) Laboratory Scientist Apprenticeship Standard:
- A 'blended' learning approach with a series of intensive days delivered from the ARU Cambridge campus, supported with a combination of online learning
