Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) to join our experienced nurse team here at Honley Surgery as part of The Valleys Primary Care Network (PCN). The post holder will succesfully complete the 2 year apprenticeship programme to become a Nurse Associate.

The succesful candidate will work under direct supervision of our Registered General Nurse at Honley Surgery. The post is a development role where the trainee will progress towards the post of Nursing Associate via the successful completion of the Nurse Associate training programme with Huddersfiled University, which includes the attainment of level 5 Foundation Degree equivelant qualification. You will undertake protected academic learning, work based learning with external placements.

At the end of the 2 year programme the post holder will be equipped with knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours required for a Qualified Nurse Associate position and will work to nationally recognised code of conduct.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will develop their skills and knowledge to deliver high quality compassionate care under the direction and mentorship of our Registered General Nurse. The post holder will work towards competancies with the aim of establishing the ability to work without direction in their core duties by the end of the training programme.

Some of the main duties and areas of responsibility of the post holder are:

  • Phlebotomy,
  • Base line observations - blood pressure, pulse, respirations,weight, height, glucose monitoring
  • Long Term Condition annual reviews - Hypertension, Diabetic, Cardiovascular, Learning Disability reviews
  • Administering immunisations - Flu, B12 and covid boosters
  • Health promotion to patients including smoking cessation advice
  • ECG
  • NHS Healthcheck
  • Cervical Screening - following cervical screening training
  • Dressing and wound care
