What will the apprentice be doing?

This is a great opportunity to learn and gain experience across the different areas of the department, getting hands-on experience in the roles of buying, estimating and quantity surveying as you support the team with various tasks.

Key Duties:
  • Assist the quantity surveyor/buyer in the selection of and negotiation with suitable subcontractors/suppliers for a construction project
  • Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project
  • Assist in the preparation compilation and binding of reports
  • Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis
  • Support the quantity surveyor with monthly subcontractor payments. This will include supporting on-site valuations, re-measurement of works and negotiation

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a nationally recognised Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician course at East Surrey College.
A Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment
English and Maths; apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
One-day each week will be dedicated entirely to lectures and studying for your apprenticeship qualification. Regular reviews with your training provider, line manager and workplace mentor.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

After gaining your Level 4 apprenticeship there is opportunity for natural progression within the company to an Assistant Quantity Surveyor and beyond.
