What will the apprentice be doing?

This varied role is focused at the start of our production process and forms a solid foundation of technical knowledge that will benefit the individual for a long-term career with Ardagh. Initially the role will be focused on the role of a cullet tester, learning the fundamentals of quality control and analytical testing, with plenty of scope to broaden learnings from all areas of the business as the individual develops.

The core responsibilities of the cullet tester are as follows:

• Process incoming cullet to Ardagh specification to ensure that quality is maintained and report any quality issue to B&F management team.

• Communicate with external suppliers and management team any quality issues.

• Operate vehicles needed to transport cullet and raw materials to the corresponding storage area.

• Carry out our daily glass chemistry analysis and elaborate daily reports to be communicated with B&F management team.

• Carry out housekeeping in accordance with company hygiene rules, 5S systems and departmental procedures.

• Comply with company health and safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

• Best practice compliance.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
  • The degree award is BEng (Hons) Materials Technology
  • You will attend Sheffield Hallam University on a series of short study blocks

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

This role will serve as a foundation to the Batch and Furnace department and could lead to progression opportunities, following completion of the Degree Apprenticeship, such as Technician or Supervisor of the department. Longer-term succession into managerial positions, our technical services team, or our other business units in the UK and across the globe.
