Job summary

Do you enjoy science and learning new skills? Or do you already work in pharmacy and want a new challenge? Come and join the friendly pharmacy team here at UHBW- Weston, as we have an exciting opportunity to train a pre-registration pharmacy technician.

The successful candidate will undertake an innovative two-year apprenticeship on a fixed-term basis, with rotational placements in a variety of pharmacy settings, to include internal across the UHBW sites and external placements across the local area, to experience all areas of pharmacy. The trust operates a free shuttle bus for staff between Weston and Bristol sites.

Pharmacy technicians are increasingly playing an important role in supporting patients with their medicines, complementing clinical pharmacists in clinical environments. The pharmacy technician workforce is continuing to develop and includes a wide range of duties including dispensing and accuracy checking of prescribed items, providing medication related information to patients and other healthcare professionals and reconciling patients medication. This is a fantastic opportunity to undertake a formal professional qualification whilst learning on the job, equally whilst supporting patients throughout their hospital experience.

Upon successful completion of the 2-year apprenticeship, you will be eligible to register with the GPhC.

Band 4 Annex 21: £25,147 to £27,596 a year earning 70% in Year 1 and 75% in Year 2

Main duties of the job

Main duties will include training to achieve competencies in the following areas: Dispensing, Accuracy Checking, Ordering and Receiving Pharmaceutical Stock, Distribution and working in a clinical patient environment including carrying out Medicines Reconciliation.

Alongside this day to day work you will also get off the job training time to develop the additional skills required to be a pharmacy technician, including understanding medicines regulations and law, increasing but not limited to clinical knowledge on the use of medicines and their mechanism of actions and principals of aseptic manufacture.

Please note there are minimum academic requirements for access to this apprenticeship of 4 GCSE's (or equivalent) A*-C/9-4, which must include Maths, English and Science (certificates will ideally be seen at interview) Candidates must be available to start the post at the beginning of the academic year (September 2023)
