The Role

It's an incredibly exciting time to be joining Croydon especially to work on digital, data and technology services. Digital transformation is central to our ambitious plans and we are, in the words of our Chief Digital Officer, not messing around.

We are establishing a new Croydon Digital Service within the council transforming our ICT team into a GDS-style service that can support the digital transformation of the council, revolutionise our online services for residents, and lead cross-sectoral work to enhance the borough through digital and technical innovation.

We have signed the Local Digital Declaration, committing us to delivering user-centred services that meet the Government Service Standard, and to following the Technology Code of Practice. We seek to collaborate, wherever possible, across London boroughs (led by City Hall) and all local authorities to share learnings, ideas and solutions. We work in the open, inviting feedback and input from our stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have to opportunity to gain an unrivalled insight into a career in Project and Change Management in the public sector. We are looking to recruit a professional, enthusiastic and hardworking Digital Delivery Intern within the Croydon Digital Service. The role has no limits on the level of involvement and ownership the successful candidate would be able to achieve, so would suit someone who is pro-active with commitment, flexibility, and ability to learn quickly and with an abundance of talent.

You will be working alongside all the teams within Croydon Digital Service with the potential to work with our delivery partners. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop ICT/ business / system change skills for the public sector whilst also learning from one of the UK's leading consultancies.

The role will involve tasks such as:

* Provide project support for existing and future Digital change projects as well as other projects across the wider Digital programme

* Assist with the compilation of governance and other reports and presentations for project boards

* Maintenance of RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies) and action logs

* To undertake project data analysis, and assist with project benefits/evaluation monitoring

* Research ideas and best practice, to support the delivery of projects

* Establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members, colleagues, senior managers, external individuals and organisations

* Engaging with internal stakeholders to present findings, recommendations and to deliver the actions agreed

* To undertake administration and financial monitoring of projects

* Undertake other assignments from time to time, depending on the needs of the programme

The Candidate

The candidate will need to be able to demonstrate strong project management and culture change skills.

Key requirements:

* Knowledge and understanding of Project Management, experience of working in a project environment, including project planning, budget monitoring, problem solving, benefits realisation, performance and risk management

* Basic knowledge and understanding of Change management.

* Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, using good inter-personal skills

* Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks appropriately in a fast-paced project environment

* Professional demeanour and presentation at all times

* Exceptional attention to detail skills in order to produce governance reports for senior managers and project boards

* Ability to use IT applications and to be self-serving in respect of word processing, spreadsheets (including data analysis), powerpoint, outlook and the internet
