Non-Destructive Testing Engineer - Bristol
Rolls-Royce's reputation for technical excellence is a defining part of our heritage and is something we're immensely proud of. Join us as a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer and you will be too. That's because we'll give you the on-the-job training and hands-on experience you need to become a technical expert. More than that, we'll support you to gain recognised qualifications, and a competitive salary while you learn.
NDT is used across a wide variety of sectors and relies heavily upon Physics and Maths. NDT is vital to us in inspecting components across our Civil and Defence Aerospace, Nuclear and Marine businesses, and we work with world-class universities to ensure our inspection technologies are industry leading. Your apprenticeship will give you exposure across our business, as you learn how to use NDT to find surface and internal defects in a variety of materials.
Undertaking training courses in all five NDT methods at a new state-of-the-art training facility in Wales, you will spend time building your practical and theoretical knowledge of x-rays, ultrasonics, eddy currents, magnetic particle inspection and fluorescent penetrant inspection. You'll gain shop floor and laboratory experience of these methods, along with quality assessment techniques.
You'll need to be able to lead your own technical project and work with expert mentors to develop the skills to complete it. Your role will see you selecting the optimal NDT method and conducting tests on parts - so be ready for project planning, control of resources, problem solving and gaining technical know-how. You'll also learn how we use NDT in research and development, and have the opportunity to learn about state-of-the-art technologies that enable us to find smaller sized defects, increase our throughput and reduce or costs.
You will undertake a variety of different placements across the business to equip you with practical experience in the various NDT methods, along with office-based periods, solving technical issues and running projects to help our internal customers. Throughout, you will study for the BSc (Hons) NDT Degree at Northampton University, validated by the professional engineering institution British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), to learn the Maths, Electronics and Physics behind these methods
