A Vehicle Damage MET Technician works in the vehicle body repair sector of the motor industry. The role is to identify damaged mechanical and electrical components on a damaged car/light commercial vehicle, and remove and refit these components before and after body repair work has been carried out. A MET Technician will also ensure everything is in full and safe working order once the repair is complete. They typically work on repairing vehicles that have been involved in accidents or similar incidents.
A MET Technician:
Use welding or soldering equipment in their repair work and have an extensive knowledge of the complex systems in modern vehicles.
Are responsible for installing new components in situations where repair is not appropriate.
The MET Technician has to demonstrate expertise not only in the technical elements of their role and have a good grasp of the practical and theoretical aspects of mechanical, electrical and trim, but also needs to have excellent telephone, customer handling skills and strong problem solving and self-organisation skills.
