The role of Apprentice Solicitor works closely with other fee earners to develop, practice and gain experience during their 6 year Apprenticeship covering both contentious and non-contentious areas of law.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To develop and maintain good client relation skills, gaining clients' confidence and that of other professionals
  • To work and behave in a professional manner and within the higher standards of the profession
  • To comply with procedures set out in the Office Procedures Manual, professional code of conduct, etc
  • Anticipate and where appropriate respond to clients' needs and demands·
  • Participate in the growth and development of the firm
  • To be aware of the firm's business plan and marketing strategies and represent the firm at external forums, events, etc
  • Keep up to date with developments in law and practice so that standard of work is not compromised
  • Keep an accurate record of all work done and training received
  • Comply with the training requirements under the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship contract
  • Attend courses and interviews as required by the Law Society, SRA, the firm and Training Partner
  • Maximise the use of IT systems introduced to assist in the management of cases
  • Where possible, utilise IT to provide a quality, cost effective and efficient service to clients
Requirements and prospects Desired skills
  • Good communication skills at all levels
  • Excellent attention to detail ensuring accuracy at all times
  • Thorough understanding of the firm/departmental business plans and the Client Charter
  • Thorough working knowledge of firm's processes, policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft and Excel skills
  • Good working knowledge of the firm's accounting systems (eg ILE)
Personal qualities
  • A flexible “can do” attitude based on excellent client service
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Comfortable working with tight deadlines
Qualifications required
  • 3 A levels at a A,A,B
  • 5 GCSE's grade A*-C, including a C or above in Maths and English (or equivalents)
