Smart Start is a family run large day nursery in Gravesend, which is located a short distance away from the town centre. The nursery comprises of 4 rooms, including a baby room, a two year old room and 2 pre-school rooms. We also have a fantastic outside area that is equipped with lots of resources and learning opportunities for all of our children. The nursery offers childcare for children from 3 months to 5 years.

Smart Start is an independent private nursery, which opened in 2005. We have a well-established team of practitioners, who are well qualified and experienced.

We had our last OFSTED inspection in April 2018 and was awarded on ‘Outstanding’ judgement.

The nursery is a short walk away from Gravesend train station and has good bus links.

 

Description of Vacancy

To assist members of our friendly team, working with all ages of children within the nursery. You would be working under the direction of the nursery manager and report to the room leaders on a daily basis. Whilst working with our team, you will be developing your skills and knowledge of early years and child development in a supportive environment to develop your own childcare career. You will be involved in supporting children’s development through play and help with planning daily activities with the children that are fun and exciting.

This apprentice role is an excellent opportunity for a young person, aged 16 – 19 years, to develop knowledge and skills in early years whilst gaining a qualification. The role involves working as part of the Smart Start team to provide a stimulating, fun and safe environment for children to develop and learn in. Working directly with children, you will be encouraged and supported by the staff to provide a high quality of early education and care.

 

Main Responsibilities

To assist with the daily routine

To ensure the safety of the environment

To follow nursery procedures including safeguarding

To attend training sessions when required

To assist and instigate activities suitable for the age range and individual needs of the children within the setting

Assist with keeping records up to date

Undertake all ad hoc duties and projects within the nursery

 

Wage

£3.70 per hour for all contracted hours

 

Hours

Up to a maximum of 37 hours per week (Paid) including a 30 minute lunch break on shifts longer than 6 hours. Regular hours and shift pattern will be agreed prior to starting.

Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards
