Job Details
Do you want to become a Podiatrist? Then this is the opportunity for you!
In recognition of the vital role that podiatrists play in supporting clients to live healthy and fulfilled lives, the Trust has invested in 2 podiatry apprenticeship posts, working in collaboration with the University of Sunderland.
This is a developmental role via the Podiatry (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship standard (Ref ST0493) over 3 years. You will work towards successful completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in podiatry and recognition by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Allied Health Professional AHP Podiatrist. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of a Podiatrist through your apprenticeship within the service as well as through completion of the Podiatry Apprenticeship training programme. This includes working in clinic and community care settings, and delivery of direct person-centred care. Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a Podiatry Apprentice, where your role will reflect your learning.
Main duties of the job
The Podiatry Apprenticeship Programme combines and integrates academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between The Trust and the university of Sunderland . You can expect to spend 60% of your time learning on the job and 40% of your time learning off the job. As a Podiatry Apprentice you will be based as an employee within South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working in a variety of clinical settings. This will enable you to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts, which will enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc (Hons) Podiatry programme. The main clinical duties of the role involve providing foot care to patients within agreed competencies and training as delegated by the Podiatrist. You will also be involved in providing foot health education and advice to patients, relatives and carers. You may be asked to support the podiatry team in delivering foot health education training to other health professionals . The post also involves assisting in minor surgery sessions within the scope of instructions laid down by the Podiatrist.
You will need to be self-motivated and able to manage the competing demands of working full time alongside studying for a degree level qualification. It goes without saying that you will also need to be passionate about Podiatry. Please answer these following questions in your application:
- What has led you to Podiatry?
- What skills do you have that are relevant to Podiatry ?
