Working as an Apprentice Junior Technician you'll work alongside leading internationally recognised engineering consultants who have a track record of delivering sustainable building designs on a range of prestigious projects.  As an Apprentice Junior Technician you will be tasked with assisting the production of sustainable low carbon design solutions on some of London’s most iconic landmark buildings.

Joining the team in Maidenhead you'll work with colleagues who specialise in building services design providing heating, cooling, ventilation, power and lighting design solutions to large scale commercial, residential, educational and mixed-use buildings and developments.

The Apprenticeship Programme

The apprenticeship programme offers a variety of high calibre learning opportunities including HNC and Degree level qualifications. Apprentices will work alongside experienced professional engineers supporting a wide range of projects and disciplines. This will be combined with day release study at university and support from a personally assigned mentor.


A typical working day will vary significantly and you'll be exposed to a wide range of engineering design responsibilities focused around nurturing your talent. The job is extremely diverse and will include involvement in the following:

  • Attendance of design coordination meetings with external project teams including industry leading architects, structural engineers and our prestigious clients.
  • Production of coordinated 3D and 2D mechanical and electrical design drawings using software tools including Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Basic building calculations including air distribution, heat gain, heat loss and cooling as well as power distribution and lighting calculations.
  • Production of 3D computational thermal models to simulate heating loads, cooling loads and provide overheating analysis.
  • Contribution to research and reporting of building servicing options and strategies.
  • Production of technical reports for internal and external project teams.
  • Meeting with manufactures to discuss and understand various advancing and emerging building technologies.


To apply to this role you will be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • Active interest in the construction industry and sustainable design development
  • Confident using Microsoft office including Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Any experience with CAD software is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication
  • Enjoy working in or as part of a team
  • Time management and prioritisation of work load coupled with good punctuality
  • Willingness to study and complete University assignments in your own time
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated to pursue personal and professional development working towards incorperated engineer accreditation (IEng).


Qualifications and Requirements

To apply to this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Five GCSE’s grade A*- C or 9-4 including Mathematics, English and Science.
  • GCSE Mathematics grade B or 5.
  • Studying A-Levels or BTEC Level 3 in Mathematics, Science or an Engineering design based subject. (Completing or have completed qualifications before September 2019)


Application Details

Successful applicants will be invited to a 2-stage assessment process consisting of a telephone interview and a final assessment day. These are likely to take place in May 2019.

Salary: £16,000 p/a

Start Date: Early September 2019
