Working as part of the Test Engineering team, you will be working towards maintaining the excellent quality standards of our product.

Siemens Motion Control in the UK, is an integral part of Siemens Digital Factory Division, providing technical solutions for control of motors in many different applications. Our factory in Congleton has been around for over 40 years during which time it has gained UK and European wide recognition and is best in class in many areas.

The key functions of the site are product development, customer services and medium volume manufacturing. Engineering and manufacturing know-how is supported by on site design, test laboratories and state of the art production technologies and techniques.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Working as part of the Test Engineering team, you will be working towards maintaining the excellent quality standards of our product. This will involve working in the Repair area to diagnose and repair faulty products picked up at our manufacturing test stages; you will work with the technician team to repair and maintain our test equipment and also work with our test engineering team creating new test programs and reducing test times through test program optimisation.
  • You will spend your first 17 months on a training program to gain an understanding of basic engineering operations leading to an NVQ Level 2, technical qualifications and various key/functional skills. Following this you will work within the Process Engineering team to gain an NVQ Level 4 in your specialist area.
  • The training program is split between academic learning and on the job training. The academic part of the apprenticeship will be delivered by a local technical college and assessments will be conducted in conjunction with Siemens.
  • On completion of the apprenticeship and subject to a good training record this could lead to a full-time position in a function that the business can support. This may include a maintenance technician, process engineering technician or manufacturing technician role.
  • There is also the possibility of further education to support your future role such as sponsorship through university as part of a day release program for example.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • You will have achieved or be on track to achieve A-Levels in Mathematics & Science Subjects or BTEC L3 in an Engineering discipline.
  • You will have achieved GCSE grade C or above in English Language, Mathematics and Science.
  • Level 2 in ICT would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of basic electronics would be an advantage.

What else do I need to know?

Throughout and beyond the apprenticeship, you will be expected to support shift working (06:00 - 14:00, 14:00 - 22:00)

The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a passion for engineering or manufacturing and a disciplined approach to timekeeping and attendance. As a result of the various placements you must be able to work alongside employees of all levels, and in order to complete the Higher Apprenticeship program, you will be required to achieve multiple qualifications which demand high levels of motivation and the commitment to study and complete work in your own time.
