We want the fearless, the ones with an unyielding passion to make a difference. Your skills and determination can contribute to creating a positive educational environment, and together, we can shape the future. Embrace the challenge, be courageous, and let's make a lasting difference in education.

What it’s like being an IT Technician Apprentice?

This opportunity will allow you to develop, through study and “on the job” experience, the knowledge, and skills necessary to be a valuable IT professional.

You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a small and dedicated team of experienced professionals and gain hands-on experience, allowing you to take your skills to the next level. You’ll play a key role in assisting and actioning the school’s ICT strategy.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting the ICT Team in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of learning & teaching across the Trust.
  • Supporting the development of all front-facing and social media platforms across the Trust.
  • Regularly checking the ticket system and providing first and second line IT support.
  • Diagnosing and repairing basic faults on ICT equipment and peripheral equipment such as MFDs (Multi-Functional Devices that provide print/copy/scan services), interactive whiteboards, screens, projectors etc. and ensure that these are always in full working order
  • Supporting the ICT team in ensuring that ICT teaching rooms are checked for damage and missing equipment daily, and that a full log is maintained of outcomes
  • Installing and testing software and configuring machines.
  • Setting up and maintaining AV equipment for assemblies and school events, including staying for evening events as needed.
  • Setting up and maintaining user network and email accounts and removing where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that all ICT and media equipment is fit for purpose and is regularly tested in line with Health and Safety.
  • Other ICT related activities as directed by the Senior ICT Technician and Director of Corporate ICT.
  • You’ll also be responsible for safeguarding and always promoting the welfare of the children.

So how does the apprenticeship work?

At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board.
Over 18 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments). Together this will count towards a Level 3 IT Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career.
Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
The best part? You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme!

The Package

At Tiro, we make great things happen for people. And that starts with you. In this role you’ll receive:

  • Starting salary of £14,450 per annum
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (rising to 28 days after 5 years)
  • Working hours: 8:00am – 4pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:00am – 3:30pm
  • Pension scheme
  • Access to the Trust Staff Benefits – includes a range of support for continued professional development, additional financial incentives/benefits, and access to a range of health and well-being resources.

Tiro is a leading training provider for science and technology apprenticeships.

We’ve been helping hungry apprentices to join ambitious businesses since 2005.

At Tiro, we really believe that great apprenticeships help everyone. An apprentice can re-energise their employer’s business by injecting new blood. That’s why we only work with the very best candidates.

We’re picky about the employers we’ll work with too. They have to be prepared to nurture every apprentice. That way, everyone benefits.

How does it work?

As an apprentice, you’ll work for an employer while pursuing a nationally recognised learning programme.

You’ll spend most of your working time learning the ropes in a hands-on role, with the help of colleagues and mentors. You’ll also spend a fifth of your time focused on the formal learning elements.

By the end of the programme, you’ll have developed the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you’ll need in your chosen field.

Who will support me?

Your expert Tiro tutor will lead you through the learning programme, which combines academic, practical, and technical training. This integrated learning allows you to put theory into practice, both on and off the job.

You’ll have a combination of live online training, progress reviews every ten weeks, and additional regular catch-ups. Face-to-face meetings are usually held at your workplace, with video calls in between.

Your ‘on the job’ training will be overseen by a mentor, who will make sure you are supported and developed at work.

How long will I be an apprentice?

Your apprenticeship will last between one and four years, depending on the programme.

As with most jobs, this will be subject to a probationary period where you’ll need to meet certain standards of performance, professionalism, and punctuality.

Some apprentices go on to a higher-level apprenticeship programme once they’ve qualified, so you could potentially be an apprentice for several years.
