What you will do in your working day

As an Apprentice Fire Safety Engineer, with Arup you will develop your knowledge,skillsand behaviors in the following areas:
  • Understanding the first principles of fire engineering including: fire dynamics, smoke dynamics, heat transfer, human behaviour, psychological impact of fire on humans, physiological impacts of fire (tenability), combustion process, products of combustion, structural response and how they are used.
  • Application of the legal and regulatory frameworks, statutoryguidanceand British and European Standard guidance in the context of fire engineering.
  • Assessingand evaluating fire engineering solutions, systems, products and processes throughout the life the cycle of a project including design, construction and occupation.
  • Programme and project management.
  • Research, information management and report writing.
  • Developing teamwork, communication skills and collaboration skills by working within other engineering professionals, regulatory professionals and with clients.

The training you will be getting

Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships have a typical duration of 3- 6 years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification (Fire Safety Engineer - Birmingham City University)to further your career.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, soyou'llcontinue to progress with Arup onceyou'vecompleted your course.
