Graduate Sustainability Advisor

Head Office

Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting for a Graduate Sustainability Advisor to join our Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality team at Head Office in Southampton. The Sustainability Advisor will provide sustainability advice and support across the business. The aim being to integrate sustainability into Trant Engineering activities, to drive improvements and embed the principles throughout the organisation. Supporting the Environment & Sustainability Manager, the role assists with setting targets, strategy and communicating this both internally and externally.

As the Sustainability Advisor, you will complete site visits with a focus on sustainability, including the environmental aspects of Trant activities, data collection/reporting, compliance on site to ISO14001:2015 and any relevant BREEAM or client reporting requirements.

Reporting into the Environmental Manager, duties include but are not limited to;

  • GHG inventory data management and any relevant report submissions, such as Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and client reporting requirements
  • Driving improvements to data management (adhering to ISO14064)
  • Completing carbon assessments for a variety of projects, including Trant construction projects and Te-Tech process solutions
  • Completing site visits with a focus on sustainability.
  • Increasing awareness of sustainability challenges relating to Trant s work activities, assessing environmental management compliance and impact, assisting with data reporting and helping solve challenges the site team may have.
  • Communicate findings to project teams through written reports and following up on any challenges.
  • Lead on implementing initiatives to reduce emissions and support company net zero emissions targets.
  • Development and review of documents that form part of the Business Management System, with a focus on sustainability and GHG emissions management.
  • Involvement with focus groups that look at central procedures to integrate sustainability into the process.
  • Upskilling others in sustainability & net zero by visiting sites, speaking with different departments and developing/delivering training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • BSc Environmental Science or BSc Environmental Engineering or equivalent

Skills:

  • Enthusiastic self-starter able to work well in a team
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook & Word)
  • Good communication skills
  • Well organised
  • An avid interest in environmental matters

Graduate Scheme:

The Trant Graduate Scheme is offered to all Graduates joining the business. This a period of training and development over 24 months, where you are assigned a mentor to carry out basic training associated with your discipline to enable you move from a Graduate Sustainability Advisor to a Sustainability Advisor who would be responsible for managing their own portfolio of projects.

You will initially be inducted into the business, and you will receive safety, health, environmental & quality training, spend time on site, learn the company policies & procedures and receive training to use the company Project Management System whilst working with your teams and being allocated a mentor.

You will be guided by your mentor and will become competent in carrying out Environmental tasks. By 12 months, you should have commenced working on your professional review Initial Professional Development (IPD) and will be actively engaged in the Professional Forum. At this time, you should be ready to work independently as a Sustainability Advisor and by 24 - 36 months you may also be mentoring your own first year Graduate.
