Job Details

Our Food Technical Degree Apprenticeship involves spending 3-years rotating between teams in our Food Technology function, developing new skills and working towards a degree while preparing for a brilliant career within our unique food retail business. You’ll play a huge role in making sure people can get the food they need. Not only do we pay any course fees, but you also earn a starting salary of £22,000!

Achieve a valuable degree and the start of a great career

Join us as a Food Technology Degree Apprentice and work within one of our 17 sites across the UK to make sure we’re staying on top of Food Safety, Food Quality and Legality. Learn about each of our technical teams, spending time in a variety of roles, to develop your food manufacturing knowledge and leadership skills. Responsibilities you could take on during the scheme include:

  • Providing support at our Flowerworld manufacturing site at peak trading times, such as Valentines or Mother’s Day
  • Working closely with production teams to understand how they run and the impact they make
  • Working with our Technical Systems Manager to understand product specifications, write procedures and develop existing systems

As well as learning on-the-job, you’ll also be studying towards a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Food Technology Management at Sheffield Hallam University. Balancing work and a degree course will be challenging. To support your learning, we'll offer study leave to complete university work stress free.

This role involves early starts, late finishes, night shifts and working weekends and Bank Holidays. It’s hard work for sure. But it’s also very rewarding. Every day is different, and we’ll support you every step of the way.

Make good things happen

Our apprentices get access to all our employee benefits, including a holiday buying scheme, contributary pension scheme, store discounts and MyPerks. This is a reward and benefits scheme that updates regularly with new and exciting offers. Here’s what could be available:

  • 25% cashback on JustEat
  • 6% cashback on Ticketmaster
  • Cinema tickets from £4.80

What you need to join us

You must be based in England to be eligible for this scheme. A minimum of 96 UCAS points and GCSE Grade 4 in Maths and English are also needed for this programme. Ideally, you will also have an A-level in Food Technology, or a science-based subject area. Other key attributes we'd like to see include:

  • Resilience
  • Determination
  • Good leadership
  • Flexibility to meet business needs

We're passionate about delivering excellence and meeting your needs, so we're confident you'll find working at Morrisons rewarding. We are focused on the progression of talent early in their career. That's why we've been awarded Best Emerging Talent Strategy at this year's Institute of Student Employers Awards!

Morrisons offers you the chance to be part of a different kind of retail business. Whether you’re a school leaver, student or graduate, our early careers give you a unique perspective, real responsibility and tons of valuable experience.

You see, unlike our competitors, we own most of our own supply chain. We’re both food makers and shopkeepers, home to diverse teams that create success together. That means you’ll find an amazing scope for learning here.

We’ve a real variety of paths to choose from, each giving you a brilliant head start. But wherever your journey takes you, you’ll find all the support you need to thrive in your career. Because together, we all make Morrisons.

Feeding the nation and doing the right thing for our customers and colleagues is what drives us at Morrisons.

A team of more than 120,000 people, we work in partnership with communities, suppliers and British farmers to provide great shopping experiences and fresh food from field to fork.

Join us, on our Degree Apprenticeship Programme and we can offer you an experience of retail that you won’t be able to get anywhere else.

Created in partnership with the University of Bradford and Sheffield Hallam University, this unique programme gives you the chance to work, earn and learn while studying towards a degree AND preparing for a career in management. (No wonder we were awarded Best School Leaver/Apprenticeship Strategy at this year’s ISE Awards!)

There are a number of different schemes to choose from, including Manufacturing, Logistics, Corporate, Retail, and Food Technical. All of them are designed to help you unlock your potential by learning on the job, taking responsibility for people and projects, and working towards either a Chartered Management and Business Degree Apprenticeship, a Retail Leadership Degree Apprenticeship or a Food Industry Professional Degree Apprenticeship (we also offer a level 4 Finance apprenticeship).

Throughout the programme you’ll enjoy getting paid for doing a real role. We’ll also look after you with great perks, lots of career opportunities and the training and support you need to be the best you can be. Because together, we all make Morrisons.
