What you will do in your working day

Here's what your role as an apprentice will involve:
  • Developing your skills in a wide range of exciting projects
  • Learning and using relevant design software
  • Being involved in client meetings and assisting in building key client relationships
  • You'll get to understand and learn digital skills, to help us harness technology in new ways
  • Your mentors will support you as you study towards nationally recognised qualifications and accreditation
  • You'll have dedicated time to spend at college or university to focus on your studies

The training you will be getting
  • Electrical or electronic technical support engineer level 6 (Degree)

The principal aims of the programme are to:
  • Educate electrical and electronic engineers to the academic requirements of the UK Standards for Professional Engineering Competences (UK-SPEC) leading towards Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)
  • Prepare prospective engineers for meaningful professional employment in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering sector of industry or prepare them for further study
  • Prepare prospective engineers for a fruitful and responsible life in society and their community
  • Complete a programme of professional development and training (PDP)
  • Prepare prospective engineers for an Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA)

Features of the programme:
  • This is a part of a degree apprenticeship which allows apprentices on Electrical/Electronic Technical Support Engineer to gain a University degree whilst developing workplace skills
  • This programme is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer
    Career and life skills such as leadership, team management and professional communication have been integrated into the programme to develop and enhance employability
  • Apprentices will compete with other Universities in the IMechE Design Challenge (or equivalent)
  • Project-based learning (PBL) is supplemented by industry visits, and guest speakers
  • 'Hands-on' type modules at all levels of the programme for assimilation and integration of topics and material
  • Open access and skills development in industry standard CAD, Analysis, Optimisation, CAM and CAE software
  • Apprentices will receive additional support to complete their end-point assessments

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Once you have completed your apprenticeship and passed your APC, you will become a chartered surveyor and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors;

There is a diverse range of career paths you can take as a Chartered Surveyor. Surveyors' jobs involve working in either land, infrastructure, construction or property.They play a key role in shaping the world around us and are involved at every stage of the complex and dynamic building life cycle.

This apprenticeship is a three-way partnership between the employer, the apprentice and UCEM. The aim is to provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a successful
building control surveyor.
