Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice to learn how to make bespoke insoles and orthotics, within our rapidly expanding Service. The role will involve you using band saws, industrial grinders and vacuum formers (similar to those you would see at your local shoe menders).

The Podiatry Service regularly assesses Patients who complain of pain when walking or during exercise. Part of their treatment may involve prescribing bespoke insoles/orthotics for their footwear to reduce their levels of pain/discomfort.

  • You would be part of the team who would manufacture these bespoke devices following a prescription and pattern provided by a Clinician.
  • You will work as part of a team within our dedicated orthotics laboratory
  • You will be integral in the manufacture of appliances and assist with the smooth running of the appliance laboratory.
  • You will receive full training and support from a Mentor/Supervisor to enable you to learn and become skilled in the making of these devices and the use of the machinery/equipment.
  • You will be enrolled onto the Prosthetic and Orthotic Technician Level 3 Qualification Certificate (equivalent to A Levels) at the University of Derby. You will be required to attend 1 day a week at the university
