The purpose of the Apprentice Portfolio Accountant is to assist the Finance and Portfolio Accounts department in providing and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the accounting records.

Duties to include but are not limited to:

  • Purchase Ledger
  • Receipt and processing of invoices Sales Ledger
  • Demands and receipt of service charges
  • Credit Control
  • Reminders and arrears collection
  • Treasury Reconciliation of bank balances
  • To assist in preparation of annual service charge accounts for audit Management of the audit process in line with prevailing legislation and deadlines
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts for the client where applicable
  • Liaise with the accounting departments to ensure the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of the quarterly and year end accounting records
  • Liaise with the property manager in respect of the year end audit and accounting information provided to all parties
  • Preparation of one off reports and provision of ad hoc service charge accounting information and/or analysis to meet client requirements
  • Participate in client meetings with the Portfolio Accountant or Property Manager

Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word.

Personal qualities

Commitment and enthusiasm to meet deadlines and work in a team. Willing to work hard and learn at the same time and strive to be accurate. Ability to listen to instructions and ask questions by being able to communicate and be fair and respectful towards colleagues and customers.

Qualifications required

Minimum of 3 A Levels at grade C and 5 GCSEs A*-C including English and Maths or equivalent qualifications

Future prospects On completion and passing the apprenticeship qualification, the role is more than likely to be made permanent - all other apprentices in similar roles have been to date. Choice of qualification will be from one of the following: CIMA CBA, ICAEW CFAB or ACCA FIA to the appropriate level and which will then provide the possibility of continuing with further study support to completion in full.
