Arqiva is looking to recruit an Apprentice Antenna Technician to provide corrective and planned maintenance across a wide range of critical broadcast and telecommunication antenna systems and deliver a wide range of operational projects to meet the needs of our customers.

What will I do?

  • You will provide operational and maintenance support to a range of antenna systems and networks across the operational region.
  • Conduct preventative and where necessary corrective maintenance on broadcast and telecommunications antennas and combiner systems across the UK.
  • Ensure sufficient spares are available to meet contractual obligations within your operating area and ensure these spares are logged correctly in line with company procedures.
  • Participate in a mandatory call out rota to provide emergency response and ensure service levels are maintained.
  • Provide specialist advice on matters relating antenna systems and operation.
  • Produce written technical reports as requested.
  • Conduct termination of proprietary feeders in accordance to manufacturers specifications.
  • Supervise support staff and third party contractors.
  • Support installation, commissioning and re-engineering projects.
  • Complete Radio Frequency Surveys to support operational needs and to meet accreditation or regulatory requirements.

Qualifications required
  • At least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above including Maths, English, and either IT or Science.
  • A minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent) preferably one of which should be in Maths, IT, or Science.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence due to the nature of the role (travelling from site to site).

Applicants from Scotland:

  • At least 5 standards (Level 1 - 3) OR 5 National Level 5 grades at A-C, which must include Maths, English, and either IT or Science.
  • 5 Higher grades at A-C preferably one of which should be in Maths, IT, or Science.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence due to the nature of the role (travelling from site to site).
Future prospects Upon satisfactory completion of their apprentice programme, apprentices will have the opportunity to progress into our Regional Antenna systems teams.

Things to consider In order to complete our maintenance schedules, this role requires individuals to work outside in all weathers, attend isolated, hilltop, rural locations. This role requires you to climb and work on our network of masts and towers, the highest of which are approximately 1000 feet (300 metres) above ground. Significant travel with time away from home is also required. Due to the nature of the role, successful candidates will be required to pass a climbing assessment, before an employment offer is made.
