Siemens Motion Control in the UK, is an integral part of Siemens Digital Factory Division. A Lean Manufacturing Apprentice will be responsible identifying, conducting root cause analysis and facilitate process improvement and much more.

Siemens Motion Control in the UK, is an integral part of Siemens Digital Factory Division, providing technical solutions for control of motors in many different applications. Our factory in Congleton has been around for over 40 years during which time it has gained UK and European wide recognition and is best in class in many areas.

The key functions of the site are product development, customer services and medium volume manufacturing. Engineering and manufacturing know-how is supported by on site design and test laboratories along with state of the art production technologies and techniques.

What are my responsibilities?

  • A Lean Manufacturing Apprentice will be responsible identifying, conducting root cause analysis and facilitate process improvement workshops by using both lean and six sigma methodologies
  • By using the methodologies, candidate will drive efficiency; reduce cost, increase customer quality and satisfaction in various manufacturing processes.
  • The successful candidate will also work closely with our industrial engineering team by using Simulation Software to virtually test manufacturing processes and improvements.
  • As an apprentice with Siemens Congleton, you will spend your first 17 months on a training program to gain an understanding of basic engineering operations leading to an NVQ Level 2, technical qualifications and various key/functional skills. Following this you will work within the facility to gain an NVQ Level 4 in your specialist area.
  • The training program is split between academic learning and on the job training. The academic part of the apprenticeship will be delivered by a local technical college and assessments will be conducted in conjunction with Siemens own apprenticeship programme.
  • On completion of the apprenticeship and subject to a good training record this could lead to a full-time position in a function that the business can support. This may include a product test technician, quality technician, customer service technician or manufacturing technician role. There is also the possibility of further education to support your future role such as sponsorship through university as part of a day release program for example.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Working towards a BTEC L3 or 3 A-Levels in Science, Technology, Engineering / Math Subjects.
  • You will have achieved GCSE grade C or above in English Language, Math and Science.
  • Level 2 in ICT would be an advantage.

What else do I need to know? : Throughout and beyond the apprenticeship, you will be expected to support shift working (06:00 - 14:00, 14:00 - 22:00) and occasional weekend working.

The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a passion for engineering or manufacturing and a disciplined approach to timekeeping and attendance. As a result of the various placements you must be able to work alongside employees of all levels, and you will be required to achieve multiple qualifications which demand a high level of motivation and the commitment to study and complete work in your own time
