This is an excellent opportunity for two talented Coventry based individuals to develop their careers as Data Analyst Apprentices. As part of a Higher Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship, you'll gain hands-on experience, training towards industry recognised qualifications as well as earning a proper salary.

What you'll be doing as a Data Analyst Apprentice:

As a Data Analyst Apprentice, you will work in the Data Science division across the MI and Data Visualisation team, and the Data Governance and Management team to support business objectives. Your role will involve the analyst developing a range of reporting solutions, such as Business Intelligence dashboards to suit the needs of internal and external stakeholders; also delivering Management Information ad-hoc requests to customers.

During your apprenticeship, you will be required to develop and deploy SQL code into environment for a range of tasks, supporting analysts in various departments; whilst also suggesting ways to improve and streamline business processes across the division.

Some of the responsibilities of the Data Analyst Apprentice will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop high quality Business Intelligence dashboards against a set of requirements using the tools and techniques available, working in an agile manner to achieve this.
  • Develop and maintain processes to move data assets through the data lifecycle to enable users to make effective use of the data.
  • Deliver the data transformation required to meet the customer's requirements.
  • Work across organisational boundaries to ensure effective contribution to business activity.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to evaluate, assess and research to improve and increase efficiency of their own work, work of the team and tools and techniques in use.
  • Support high priority pieces of work based on the ambitions of the division and department.

Additional tasks will include:

  • Quality assure ad-hoc code for analysts.
  • Develop ad-hoc analysis and new functionality within a swift time frame for a range of stakeholders.
  • Deploy a range of solutions within the Data Storage and BI Tools environments
  • Proactively contribute to daily stand-ups and weekly meetings, suggesting ways that current processes can be improved, whilst keeping the rest of the team updated with work streams.
  • Support senior analysts to acquire, process, and store information to meet the specific needs of customers across the department.
  • Construct and test scripts to validate and cleanse source files.
Requirements and prospects Desired skills
  • High level of computing required, including the ability to use Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote).
  • Some knowledge of relational databases and big data is desired.
  • Basic understanding of SQL is desired, but not essential.
  • The individual will need to be a good communicator, and able to deal with a fast paced environment.
  • The individual will be required to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The individual will need to work flexibly and under pressure, through effective time management.
  • The individual will be required to abide to the Civil Service Code whilst working with the department.
Personal qualities

Qualifications required
  • You don't need loads of professional experience in IT. However, you'll need at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above including Maths, English and IT / Science and A-levels or equivalent such as a BTEC Level 3 or a Level 3 Apprenticeship
